Overview GENSOU Skydrift:
GENSOU Skydrift is a 3D racing game set in the magical land of GENSOKYO. The game is a kart racing game in which races in a kart against other teams in different courses. Your current standings in the race, current speed as well as the incoming weapons will be displayed at the screen. Similar to the previous version of the game, you can pick up a box to receive a randomly selected item, and use it against your opposition and gain an advantage over your opponents. Some specific items such as shells and bananas allow you to hit other karts in order to slow them down, whereas other items such as star power-ups allow you to temporarily vulnerable to attacks. GENSOU Skydrift is the only game in the series in which there are more than one character per kart, one to drive and the other to use items.
GENSOU Skydrift is the first game in the series in which you have to drop your items if attacked by a weapon. The power side technique allows you to drift around turns. You can now use a control stick while drifting, in order to make sparks appear around the kart. If sparks are blue, the player will gain a speed boost known as Mini-Turbo.
The rocket star mode of the game allows you to gain a speed boost as soon as the race begins. It is improved by double dash which can now only be done as a team. In Grand Pix you will race against seven other teams. It allows you to choose three different engine size classes, namely 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. An unlockable class namely Mirror Mode, allows you to race through a mirrored version of the tracks using the 150cc engine.
